Handcrafted Natural Soaps
Balm of Gilead’s skillfully handcrafted soaps are made with love, using only all natural ingredients, without the use of any artificial colours, fragrances, preservatives or other additives. For scent we use only 100% pure essential oils, and for colourants we use clays and plants (e.g. turmeric, paprika, cacao, etc.), avoiding even so called natural cosmetic-grade ingredients like micas, ultramarines and oxides as they are usually synthetically made these days and can contain additives.
In our soapmaking we use the cold-process method, using only pure vegetable oils as they are chemically superior and can be of higher quality than animal fats. Plant-based oils are more readily absorbed by the skin while animal fats (most commercial soaps contain mostly animal fats like lard from pigs or tallow from cattle) have been found to clog pores and aggravate certain skin conditions, such as eczema.
All our soaps are at least 5% superfatted, making them extra skin-friendly and more compatible with our skin’s pH. This lends our soaps their
mild and moisturizing qualities, which means that they are suitable even for people with very dry and sensitive skin.
Glycerin, a great moisturizing agent, is a natural by-product of the soapmaking process. While commercial manufacturers remove the glycerin for use in their more profitable lotions and creams, our handcrafted soap retain glycerin in each and every bar, so that you can say good-bye to your “I have to use lotion as my skin feels dry after using soap” habit.
We have carefully selected a palm oil supplier that supports the production of sustainable palm oil through the GreenPalm program and sources its palm oil from a producer who is operating within the RSPO’s (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) strict guidelines for social and environmental responsibility. GreenPalm is a certificate trading program which is designed to tackle the environmental and social problems created by the production of palm oil. Our customers can therefore be reassured that in buying our soaps they are making an environmentally and socially responsible purchasing decision.
For our soaps we try to keep all packaging to a minimum and avoid all plastic. All of our soap labels are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled
paper made by an Australian company.
Note: All our soaps are hand-cut and weigh around 100g per bar. Please note that shape and colour may vary slighlty with each batch. Feel free to contact us to confirm details for current soap batch.
